Abstract

This research paper entitled ‘The Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province’ has three objectives: 1) to study the Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province, 2) to compare the Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province according to individual factors, and 3) to propose the guidelines to improve the Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province. This is a mixed method research, qualitative and quantitative. in the qualitative research, 287 secondary students from first level to sixth level in Lamae school, Chumphon province, academic years of 2019, were population gained by random sampling through Taro Yamane approaches. In the analysis, Percentages, Average, standard deviation and T-test were used to examine two independent variable groups and the case of more two independent variable groups was analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and when the statistical significant difference was found. In the qualitative research, 10 key informants were interviewed through in-depth interviewing by means of content analysis.

 

 

 

 

The research findings were found as follows:

1. In the Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province, it was found that in overall it was at the highest level with average of 4.04, in each domain the highest level was of the first level in teaching the Buddhist subjects according to the basic curriculum where its averages were of 4.13, the lowest level was of the third domain in dealing with being the leaders in practicing concentration with average of 3.98.

2. In the comparison of students’ opinions on the Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province according to individual factors, it was shown that students whose level, age and family income were in different level were of level in different in the Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province. Based on this, it was in accordance with the given hypothesis. But, students whose ages was different were of indifferent opinions on the Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province. Based on this, it was not in accordance with the given hypothesis.

3. The guidelines to develop the Buddhist monks’ efficiency in teaching Buddhist subject in school, Lamae district, Chumphon province were proposed as follows: 1) in teaching the Buddhist subjects done by Buddhist monks in Lamae school, Chumphon province, the teaching should be mixed with morality and ethics through using modern media, 2) in being leaders in practicing meditation the activity in developing forms of examining students’ emotion should be provided through practicing meditation, chanting and moral camp, 3) in being the instructors, there should have re-examination of students’ progress, the desirable results of learning according to the stipulated curriculum, post-examination-checking in order to provide students’ knowledge and proper understanding, and 4) in teaching Buddhist subjects being integrated with ways of life, it showed that the activity in seeking refuge in the Triple Gems  should be provide. Beside, problems caused by sexual relationship and proper loving should be solved through the training of giving up drug and various activities in different occasions.
