Abstract

 

ABSTRACT

 

This documentary study is a qualitative research which aims (1) to analyze Political  Ethics in Theravada Buddhist Philosophy, (2) to analyze Political  Ethics of  King Ramkhamhaeng, the Great, and (3) to analyze Political  Ethics of  King Ramkhamhaeng, the Great  Based on Theravada Buddhist Philosophy.

The results are as follows:

Political ethics of King Ramkhamhaeng, the Great, in Theravada Buddhist Philosophy relates to human behaviors that judge the right. The main point of political ethics is human being which consists of physical and mental judgment of good and bad. The political ethics in Theravada Buddhist Philosophy is virtues or duties of the king, such as holy abidings, supremacy, conditions of welfare, and qualities of a good man.

 

The political  Ethics of King Ramkhamhaeng, the Great,  from the stone inscription  consists of four sides which have valuable stories of government related to law science, political science, economics, society, history, geography, language, literature, religion, and customs. The first side is claimed for helping Sukhothai people to live happily and having freedom to do a business. The second side is described about giving alms, and keeping precepts. The third one is described                      about Buddhism beliefs. People have to stick to Buddhism. The last one is described how  to train Sukhothai people for a better knowledge in living their life.

 

              The analytical study of political ethics of King Ramkhamhaeng, the Great, based on Theravada Buddhist philosophy from four stone inscription showed that the first side is described about gratitude and kindness of King Ramkhamhaeng, the Great,  to Sukhothai people. Thus, the rule of  political  Ethics of King Ramkhamhaeng, the Great,  is called holy  abidings. The second side is supremacy encouraging  Sutkothai  people to give food to poor people, and encourages people to      keep precepts. The third one is a quality of a good man focusing on Buddhism beliefs, keeping themselves in the right way and consisting virtues and encouraging Sukhothai people to perform  good actions. The fourth side is related to royal assistance focusing on language knowledge, and supporting Buddhism seriously.

 

Thus, political  Ethics of King Ramkhamhaeng, the Great, based on Theravada Buddhist philosophy reflects values which are from Buddhism philosophy leading to happiness of  cooperation from Buddhism philosophy  because the Dhamma  political  will cause peace resulting in good  effect for living together in the society peacefully and happily forever.
