Abstract

This thesis is to study the Doctrinal Principles in Anagaasutta and to study the method of the developing Vipassanā-Bhāvanā in Anagaasutta. It is to study the data, the essence and the Doctrinal principles in Anagaasutta in Theravāda Buddhist Scriptures which are the Three Baskets, the Commentaries, the Sub-Commentaries and the other related Scriptures by composing the data, by checking the right essences by the specialists.

From the study, it is found that Anagaasutta about which Ven Saputta and Moggallāna talked together.

At the meeting, the Buddha was the president. The essence of that Sutta deals with the defilements. When the from and the meaning of words are studied, it is found that the defilements are the sinfull behaviours consisting of Rāga, Dosa and Moha, In that Sutta, the monks who was punished which wrong conduct, wished to conceal his wrong conduct and do not want any one to know it.

In the Doctrinal principles at the end of the Sutta Ven Sarīputta purposed the practical principles for the monks who were ordained with faith and have stability in Pātimokkhasavarasila, Indriyasavarasila, Bhojanemattaññutā, Jāgariyānuyoga, Satisampajañña.

The Doctrinal principles at the end of this Sutta are in Compliance with the Buddha's Words said in many Suttas such as the level of the practice to attain Magga, Bhala and Nibbāna as set by Him to Gaaka Moggallāna Brāhmana in Gaaka Moggallāna Sutta.

From the checking the essence of this Sutta, it is found that there is the explanation of  Satisampajañña which is in compliance with the Buddha's Words in Gaaka Moggallāna Sutta. That is the principle of Ariyāpathapabba, Sampajaññapabba in the 4 Foundation of Mindfulness which are Kāyānupassanā SatipatÚtÚhāna, Vedanānupassanā SatipatÚtÚhāna, Cittānupassanā SatipatÚtÚhāna, Dhammānupassanā       SatipatÚtÚhāna. The mindfulness which is stable in considering the Dhammas is the priciple of practising the Vipassanā-Bhāvanā which is the Bhāvanāmayapaññā order to extinguish the sufferings.

The development of the 4 Foundations of the Mindfulness, beside being the practice of Insight Meditation, is also called Sammāsati which is the firm Mindfulness, that is the Foundations in 4 bases namely:-Kāya, Vadanā, Cittā, Dhammā. So it can be said that the practice of Insight Meditation is the way of practice according to the principles of the 4 Foundations of Mindfulness in order to be Mindfulness to be the right.

This is regarded also as the practice according to the eightfold Nobles Path.
