Abstract

ABSTRACT

The objectives of this research were: (1) to study the public servants’ personal characteristics in the fourth Justice Court Office of the Chief Judge, (2) to study the public servants’ work performance according to sixfold Sārāniya-dhamma in the Fourth Justice Court Office of the Chief Judge, (3) to compare the public servants’ work performance according to sixfold Sārāniya-dhamma in the Fourth Justice Court Office of the Chief Judge and (4) to study the use of sixfold Sārāniya-dhamma applied to the public servants’ work performance in the Fourth Justice Court Office.

This was the mixed methods: a quantitative research and a qualitative research. The sample in this research was 254 public servants in the Fourth Justice Court Office. The research instruments for the data collection were questionnaire that was carefully created with the content validity from five scholars and 0.82 of its reliability. All collected data was analyzed with a programme of Statistics Package for the Social Science (SPSS). The statistics to analyze the collected data was frequency, percentage, means, and standard deviation (S.D.), t-test, and One-Way ANOVA. The qualitative research collected all data from the in-dept interview from five key informants: directors, vice-directors, and heads of general executive section.

§

The analysis of the collected data from the interview was done to search a way to develop the work performance according to sixfold Sārāniya-dhamma with the content analysis technique.

A result of this research was found in the following aspects.

              1. Most of the public servants who showed the personal opinion on the questionnaire were a woman (66.1%), 31-40 of their age (42.2%), a worker of Justice Court Office (37.8%), bachelor’s degree (72.4%), and 25,000 baht of their salary (50.4%).

              2. The public servants in the Fourth Justice Court Office who followed sixfold Sārāniya-dhamma were in a high level (  = 4.12). When each aspect was considered, it was in the high level. These aspects were admirable in deed, openly and in private (  = 4.12), admirable in word, openly and in private (  = 4.29), admirable in mind, openly and in private (  = 4.50), sharing any lawful gains with virtuous fellows (  = 4.01), keeping without blemish the rules of conduct along with one’s fellows, openly and in private (  = 4.47), and endowed with right views along wit one’s fellows, openly and in private (  = 3.97).

              3. The public servants who had different ages, ranks, education, and salary followed sixfold Sārāniya-dhamma differently with the significance in statistics at 0.05. This result followed the given hypothesis. However, the public servants in the Fourth Justice Court Office who had the different sex followed sixfold Sārāniya-dhamma indifferently. Thus, this result denied the established hypothesis.

              4. The public servants in the Fourth Justice Court Office had to contact the other workers, visitors, and immediate superiors according to ethics of the public servants in the Justice Court Office, policies of the chief judge, and strategies of the Justice Court Office in order to give a lawsuit and visitors a good service as well as to make them most satisfied. The ethics of the public servants in the Justice Court Office was actually seen as a thing to control the behaviour of the public servants in the Justice Court Office and promote them to behave in the right way. This method would bring them to the success as a good public servant to work and give a good service to all visitors who came to the governmental offices.
