Abstract

                                                        ABSTRACT

                  The aims of this thesis are 1) to study history and development of the Jriang-Brern Song of Khwaosrinarin District, Surin Province, 2) to study the virtues appear in Jriang-Brern Song of Khwaosrinarin District, 3) to analyze the morality shown in Jriang-Brern Song of Khwaosrinarin District.

                  The result of this research is found that Jriang-Brern is a folk-song, be interested and usually played in Surin Province’s region. It’s understood that it took place around 40-50 years ago. It’s adapted from the old lyrics called “Kantob-kai”.

                  Singing Jrian-Brern, by its form, is like the Northeastern Folksinger, the Koraj Folksinger, and the Racy folk banter and song show of the central part of Thailand. It’s oral literature or extemporaneously singing. It, while one’s singing, has continuously rhyme, and has analogy or using lyrics by compare in order to make its images up clearly.

                  The morality shown in Jriang-Brern can be divided as follows;

                  It shows the moralities suitable for the people are in class of governor and general. It shows what should be followed and what should be abstained for the happiness and prospering in daily life.

                  The results of research into Jriang-Brern found that the moralities shown for general people can be divided into three namely; 1) the morality suitable for person in accordance with one’s means. 2) The morality suitable for person according to sex. 3) The morality suitable for person according to age.
                  In addition, the moralities shown in Jriang-Brern Songs can be analyzed and summarized into the doctrine related to birth, decay, getting sick and death. These states are spoken in the sense of Buddhism called the Three Characteristics.  Because of those three states are based on impermanence, non-essence of everything, they were written as Jraing lyrics by Jriang-Brern Singers in order to teach all audiences to put themselves in carefulness. They believe that all of our lives, by nature, are impermanent, in the conditions of birth, decay, getting sick and death.
