Abstract

ABSTRACT

The objectives of this study were in three folds viz.1) to study the concept of the Liquid Element as its appeared in Theravada Buddhist Texts  2) to study the practical principles as its appeared in Theravada Buddhist Texts 3) to analyze and compare the Liquid Element organism and in-organism along with the application to the present Thai Society. The study has appropriately employed documentary Research. The qualitative approach was used in the study. The research was related to primary and secondary data.

The findings were as below :

1)The origin existence and variation of the Liquid Element as appeared in Theravada Buddhist Texts was concluded from Buddha teachings in  Suttapitaka namely AggaññaSutta. It has been spoken of the evolution of  organism and  in organism respectively. Along with other elements that would come together to make the existence of life. Water was the one substance that was essential to life, both inside and outside. Nevertheless, water has fallen into The Three   characteristics.  The water would disappear by nature. The water in the body of a person after passing away including water elements would also die at the end. The impact of disasters and  the Liquid Element in Theravada Buddhism said that the cause that the universe and the world have been destroyed depending on three reasons : by fire ,by water and by wind.  This was in accordance with The three characteristics.

2) The principles of the Liquid Element as appeared in Theravada Buddhist Texts consisted of the Liquid Element by means of Vinayapitaka  which was the prohibition for pabbajita, for example, did not defecate, urinate into the water, If pabbajita has been done he must confront offence. For the other hand the Liquid Element was one of the Vipassana-Bhavana method that was training the wind to develop a peaceful settlement of intellectual concentration and passion eventually destroyed. For Kayanupasana. The practitioners need to act with determination and persistence, which was the other principles were supported. For example Kayanupassana the Dhamma principles which were effected to the practice of the Liquid Element such as  Sammappadhana Four, Pala  Fire, and Bojjhanga seven.

3) The analysis  of  relationship between the Liquid Element and organism and in organism relation found that the human beings were composed of Dhatu (Pathavi-dhatu, Apo-dhatu, Tejo-dhatu, Viyo-dhatu) and Panca-khandha. In matters of  life Dhatu and Panca-khandha were set up and would make the process of human life better. The  application in everyday life used a lesson about water compared to the evil that needed to be  ignored viz Ogha (The Four Floods), Water was comparable with what  harmful that one should evade e.g./consist ire of Pathavi-dhatu, Apo-dhatu, Tejo-dhatu, Viyo-dhatu. Apo-dhatu for the enlightenment referred to the body and all things that were part of the four elements and the cognitive ability to be completely withdrawn from all kinds of passion.
