ABSTRACT

This thesis is of 3 objectives, namely :- 1) to study the viewpoints about the songs connected with the Buddhist Doctrinal Principled. 2) to analyze the Doctrinal Principled appearing in Thai songs. 3) to estimate the righteousness of the Doctrinal Principled appearing in Thai songs.

             From the research, it is found that the viewpoints about the items of the songs requiring the Doctrinal Principled in Buddhism are the song sung by the young ladies taking the lotuses from the pond. Such the song was :- “This lotus flower is called.” Kotanuda blooming, in the morning and dejected away by the sun.In a similar way, the living beings who have become the human beings are dejected away by the old age. Ven. TissaThera, when listening to the songs sung by the young girl sent his menial streams to the songs and then attained Arahantaship. On the other hand, the song sung by a lady who milt the rice by hand was as:-  “This body defends on the drying skin disturbed by the old age. This body reached the state of being the food of the death-falling down because of the death. This body was the living place for the groups of the worms full of the different dead bodies. This body in the vessel for the dirty things. It is equal to the wood piece.

             It is also the song sung by Pañca-Sikkha Deity as :- “The merit built by me in the past with Arahanta monks who were of the firm minds, let that merit be of the result causing me to have Nrmala as the my wife. Oh! Suriyāyawsacng! I love you wish to have you as my wife, such as phraShākya-Muni who was the mindfulness and the true knowledge and performed ñāṇa and Samadhicitta and wished for Nibbāna.

             From the analysis of the Doctrinal Principled appearing in the present songs with the essences mixed with the Buddhist Doctrinal Principled such as the song called “Down Look Kai” which begins with the question about the lives. The base of setting up the mentioned questions came from the experience in the consideration of the origin and the development of the human beings, lives, the fact of which causes the comparison of each life. When one considers this matter delicately, one can deeply see the confusions. This fact is like something behind this life. There is only the answer that this life comes from mother’s the womb, so it is not enough. At the beginning, the way of belief in the heaven was raised up. This point it regarded in Buddhism as of the important in diving the human beings’ lives to be of differences.

          From the study of the estimation of the righteousness of the Doctrinal Principled appearing in Thai songs, it can be concluded that the mental strength in composing the Thai songs is connected with Buddhist Doctrinal Principles in Thai societies. The composer of the Thai songs was of the purposed to use the Thai songs in spreading the Dhammas in practicing the Dhammas according to the Buddhist viewpoints by using the essence of the song which are if the Doctrinal Principles to canes the human beings’ beliefs the habits the vie points and the ways to lead the life to be better in the Thai societies in the patterns of the songs in the ceremonies.
