Abstract

ABSTRACT

 

This is an analytical work through the process of qualitative and experimental research with three objectives that aims to study the development of human being according to the Threefold Training, study and evaluate morality teaching by applying the Development principle (physical, moral, emotional and intellectual developments), and propose the evaluation process of morality teaching in schools according to the Buddhist principle.  The researcher acquired data from relevant documentation and fieldwork.

From the research study, it was found that the development of human being according to the Threefold Training is to develop all elements including body, speech, thoughts, mind, emotion, consciousness as well as intellect to live peacefully and freely in the society under such training method.  There are three main objectives.  First, to live a good life; then, to be moral, ethical, live happily with good mental health, hence, become good citizen to the society and country as a whole; and finally, to lead ones to the intellectual ideal according to the Buddhist principle. 

The morality teaching by applying the Development principle which are: Physical Development is to have a supporting relationship with the natural environments through body or objects; Moral Development is to have a supporting relationship with the social environments, particularly with fellowmen; Emotional Development is to cultivate ones’ mind with virtue and ethic to become strong and healthy with full of joy and happiness; and Intellectual Development is to educate oneself to understand and comprehend the reality of life.

The evaluation model of the morality teaching in schools has 23 indicators which were divided into four different aspects: physical, moral, emotional and intellectual developments. The quality of the indicators was validated by collecting the data from 107 teaching monks.  The statistics program package was used to analyze and determine the percentage, average and standard deviation.  It was measured that the indicators were in the most perfect distribution (Mean = 4.43 and Standard Deviation = .35). The evaluation result of the morality teaching in schools to assess the evaluation process by collecting data from 270 random samples, it was found that the morality teaching in school was in the highest level (Mean = 4.28 and Standard Deviation = .42) and the success rate of the morality teaching monks in schools was in the highest level as well (Mean = 4.38 and Standard Deviation = .46).
