Abstract

                                     Abstract

The objective of this thesis is to study the Buddhist Five Precepts Observation affecting stress and the ability to cope with difficulties of students in Ratanageena-uthit school in Bangkok’s Rajburana district. The sampling group consists of 174 persons. Statistical used to conduct the research were analyses of basis data, i.e. percentage, average of and Standard Deviation. The Chi-Square:  is used as analytical tool for the research objective. The research found that:

The percentage of 30.20 of the sampling group observes the First Precept (to abstain from killing) the most, while the Fifth Precept (to abstain from taking intoxicant) is observed the least. It is also found that the majority of this group has good ability to cope with difficulties while having no stress at all.

In comparing those who have and have not observed the Fifth Precept to their stress and ability to cope with difficulties, the research found that the sampling group has difference percentage of having stress and the ability to cope with difficulties significantly at 0.05  ( = 47.193, p = 0.013).

In having the ability to cope with difficulties, the research found that the majority of the sampling group lacks the strength to improve or develop themselves and only some in the group are satisfied with their own lives and are happy enough to associate with the society around them.
