Abstract

  This thesis is of three objectives to study the concept of the ultimate goal and the method of practices to achieve the ultimate goal in Theravāda Buddhism and in Christianity Roman Catholics and to comparatively study the concept of the ultimate goal and the method of practices to achieve the ultimate goal in both religions. This research is the documentary one as appearing in Theravāda Buddhism and in Christianity Roman Catholics.

  The Theravāda Buddhism believes in the human being potentialities. It is the duty of the human himself in training and practicing in order to achieve the ultimate goal.  The Buddha is only the One who found, practiced and taught the ways to find out by the highest target.

  The way to practice oneself find out the ultimate goal in Theravāda Buddhism. When one knows about the fear of Kāma, One always studies and trains oneself in the Threefold. This is the only way to prevent one to be away from Dukkha and to achieve the ultimate goal called Nirvāna. 

  The Christian Roman Catholics are of the different concepts that the only one way to achieve the ultimate goal is metanoia and reconciliation to God.  To practice themselves is the objective of God. That is shown in The Bible, The Catechism of Catholic Churchand always prays in the Christian prayer.

  To attain the complete human being is to have the eternal life and to receive the rights to be the citizen in the Kingdom of God. These rights are fixed only by God. Whether the God will give it or not depends on Himself.

  When the researcher analyzed the essence in Theravāda Buddhism and Roman Catholic Christianity, it is found that the highest characteristics in both religions are different. The Buddhist viewpoint, one must practices the ultimate goal by oneself and for oneself. The Christians must practice themselves to have eternity life.  Such the practice is pleased by the God. 

  Buddhism and Christianity are of some characteristics as follows both religions are of 4 ultimate goals in the religions people lives.

1)    The ultimate goals are the life idealism.

2)    The ultimate goals are the excellent happiness.

3)    The ultimate goals are of the characteristic of eternal life and eternity.

4)    The ultimate goals are the only way to be practiced by oneself to attain the ultimate goals.

 The only way to practicing in The Theravāda Buddhist people practice the Insight Meditation. The Christian people must practice according to God’s aim. The Christian people are of the deep in Love, the deep obedience and do everything for only the God.
