Abstract

ABSTRACT

 

The present study aimed at 1) studying the principles of Dhamma Practice in Buddhism; 2) studying self–development from Dhamma practice of Buddhists practicing in Wat Ampawan Phromburi District, Singburi Province; and 3) presenting results from self–development from Dhamma practice of Buddhists practicing in Wat Ampawan Phromburi District, Singburi Province. This present study employed a Mixed Method with both Quantitative, with a survey, and Qualitative research methodologies. The study sample consisted of 279 out of 7,179 Buddhists practicing in Wat Ampawan Phromburi District, Singburi Province. The subjects were recruited based on the sample size of Taro Yamane. The instrument used in data collection was a questionnaire. The data were analyzed in terms of Frequency, Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation. As for qualitative methodology, in-depth interviews were used with 10 key informants, and data were analyzed by means of content analysis.

 

The findings of this research showed that:

The overall opinions of people towards self-development from Dhamma practice of Buddhists practicing in Wat Ampawan Phromburi District, Singburi Province was at the great level. When considering each aspect, it was found that the opinions toward all aspects were at great levels.

 

As regards recommendations on self-development from Dhamma practice of Buddhists practicing in Wat Ampawan Phromburi District, Singburi Province, it is recommended that Wat Ampawan teaches meditation in form of Satipatthana (Four Foundations of Mindfulness) being taught from simple to difficult. In this connection,

 

 

it enables the Buddhists to practice and understand full meaning of the Buddhist practicing way. And also this makes those who are practitioners first learned the basic from the start and when practiced regularly, it can develop the physical, spiritual and intellectual precepts as well. But the survey found that those who practice theprinciples can be used to understand and improve themselves as well as those that are found with the loss or illness. And that does not upset me, but I want to study religion. These studies showed that all groups treated with either a happy or unhappy. And the practical result of learning and self-development potential in areas already. When self-development was fully developed, family, community, society and  nation  also  will  surly  be  developed.  Finally,  it  will  contribute  to  the development of Thailand as well.
