Abstract

Abstract

This research aims at 3 dha objectives; 1) to study the Upasampadā in Buddhist tradition, 2) to study the dangerous cause of Upasampadā and 3) to analyze the dangerous cause of Upasampadā according to Antarāyikadhamma by collecting the data from the Tipitaka, commentaries, sub-commentaries, academic texts and other related research works. The mentioned documents are composed, written in descriptive style and finally cheeked by the experts. From the study, the findings were that;

        Upasampadā or Buddhist ordination was renunciation of worldly life living as an ascetic for Dhamma practice aiming at suffering end. There are 8 types of Buddhist ordination such as Ehibhikkhu-upasampadā, Tisaranagamanupasampadā and Natticatutthakamma etc. Having ordained, one will become Bhikkhu. He must study Dhamma and discipline for living as homeless life with satisfaction and keeping faith in the Triple Gems. Cause of ordination starts from longing for enlightenment and strict discipline. Benefits of ordination one gain are private dhamma practice for enlightenment and continuity of Buddhist culture in long time.

Dangerous cause of Upasampadā based on Antarāyikadhamma was that these 13 Antarāyikadhamma obstruct or incomplete such ordination causing anxieties and being concern for oneself and others in group, therefore before ordaining, the preceptor must ask for these Antarāyikadhamma such as leprosy, smallpox, epilepsy, allowance from parents, fully 20 years old etc. to those who are going to be ordained due to his incomplete ordination will cause difficult life as a Bhikkhu which might endanger to others and blocking the purpose of Buddhist ordination.

An analysis of dangerous cause of Upasampadā based on 13 Antarāyikadhamma was that infective diseases without healing may cause the dangers to oneself and others become anxious and burdening. One who prepares for ordination must recover oneself from diseases before ordaining. These themes; male, without depts, not in services of governments are allowed because Bhikkhu can live safely rationally, without worries and be able to stay in everywhere. The allowance from parents because parents needs children to continue their works and heir especially the family which has only one son. Fully 20 years of ages is allowed because Bhikkhus must have majority, responsibilities and leadership for living. With complete requisite, Bhikkhus can continue their lives and the faithful appearance for public.
