Abstract

           This dissertation entitled ‘Guidelines in Managing the Suitable Environment for Dhamma Practice’ has three objectives: 1) to study environmental design principles and landscape architecture conducive to Dhamma practice, 2) to study environment conducive to Dhamma practice in Theravada Buddhist scriptures, and 3) to integrate knowledge and propose guidelines in managing environment conducive to Dhamma practice. This is a qualitative research done by studying documentaries, in-depth interview and focus group.

 

In the research, it was found that the environmental design principles conducive to Dhamma practice are of comfort zone, sustainable design, healing landscape, and urban forestry. Site planning deals with analysis of site, users and activities then the layout of zoning, buildings, structures, and circulation. Landscape detailed design comprises planting materials, boundary, circulation, and other landscape elements. The components of landscape architecture conducive to Dhamma practice are assigned to provide certain function, beauty, resources and environmental concern.
