Abstract

            This thesis entitled " A Study of Relationship of 5 Balas and 4 Iddhipãdashas three objectives: 1) to study five Balas in Theravada Buddhism, 2) to study four Iddhipãdas in Theravada Buddhism, and 3) to study the relationship of five Balas Bala and four Iddhipãdas in Buddhism. This is a documentary research.

  The result of this research is found that the five Balas are basically concerned with five virtues of 5 powers consisting of: 1) Saddhãbala (the power of faith.)– the right beliefs that support the strong mind, 2) Viriyabala (the power of perseverance.)– the resistible courage to break through the obstacles, 3) Satibala (the power of mindfulness.) – the consciousness, 4) Samãdhibala (the power of concentration.)- the concentration of the mind, and 5) Paññãbala (the power of wisdom.) – intelligence or wit.  The four Iddhipadas refer to Dhamma of 4 paths of the aimed accomplishment consisting of: 1) Chanda -pleasure to work (being satisfied.)with the present working, 2) Viriya - perseverance (persistence.) 3) Citta - care and responsibility for the working (concentration of mind.) and 4) Vimaṁsã - working (investigation with wisdom.)  The four Iddhipadas mean Dhamma of the paths leading to the excellent success which are regarded as important principles for perfect human development tools.

  The relationship of five Balas and four Iddhipadas is that the joint application of both principles will create the highest benefits in Dhamma,education and working practice towards the same goals by using the four Iddhipadas as core drive and the five Balas as internal energy to support strengthening one’s mind.These principles are supportively related to each other and can make people’s working stability in education, working and Dhamma practice for properly efficient accomplishment and more prosperity according to the Buddhist Dhamma.
