Abstract

The objectives of this mixed method research were 1) to examine learning management principle and method of daily living based on the sufficiency economy principle and Buddhist psychology for the fourth grade upper secondary students, 2) to develop management process of learning into sufficiency economy based on Buddhist psychology, and 3) to the present model of the management process of learning into sufficiency economy based on Buddhist psychology. Subjects in this study were 43 fourth grade upper secondary students at Suksanari school in Bangkok by random sampling.

There were six research instruments, including 1) knowledge related to sufficiency economy principle questionnaire 2) attitude towards sufficiency rationale questionnaire 3) self-immunity behavioral questionnaire 4) management of learning into sufficiency based on Buddhist psychology for the fourth grade upper secondary students 5) behavior observation form, and 6) interview form. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, including mean, percentage, and standard deviation. Paired-Samples t-tests were also employed to compare score of knowledge, attitude, and practice before and after the implementation of the learning process. Narrative approach was used to represent qualitative data.

             Results were as follows,

1) Learning management principle and method of daily living based on the sufficiency economy principle and Buddhist psychology for the fourth grade upper secondary students were the integration of Bloom’s taxonomy, Buddhist doctrines, i.e., Paratoghosa, Yonisomanasikãra, Sammãdiññhi, and the Bhãvanã 4, the framework for 21st century learning, and the sufficiency economy principle.

2) Management process of learning into sufficiency economy based on Buddhist psychology or FIRPP model, consisted of 5 steps, including 1) Faith, 2) Inspiration, 3) Reflection, 4) Planning, And 5) Practice.

3) According to outcomes of the management process of learning into sufficiency economy based on Buddhist psychology, after the FIRPP model was implemented, fourth grade upper secondary students who participated in this FIRPP learning model had statistically significant higher scores on knowledge (t = 16.421, p = .000), attitude (t = 2.045, p = .047), and practice (t = 5.367, p = .000), towards sufficiency economy principle than those before entering the program.

The results showed that the model of management of learning into sufficient based on Buddhist psychology or FIRPP Model, which consisted of 5 steps namely 1) Faith, 2) Inspiration, 3) Reflection, 4) Planning, And 5) Practice, was the effective learning model. It was able to promote the fourth grade upper secondary students to apply sufficiency economy principle into practicing in their daily lives. Thus, the model of management of learning into sufficiency based on Buddhist psychology or FIRPP Model that was developed in this study might be able to apply to fourth grade upper secondary students to promote their learning ability and apply the sufficiency economy principle to their daily living.
