Abstract

       The research on “A Study of Influence of Mahajatakadesana (Great Birth Sermon) Tradition to Buddhists in Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province” have three objectives ; 1) to study origin and importance of Mahajatakadesana (Great Birth Sermon) tradition in Buddhism, 2) to study model of Mahajatakadesana (Great Birth Sermon) tradition in Lamplaimas district, Buriram province, 3) to study influence of Mahajatakadesana (Great Birth Sermon) tradition to Buddhists in Lamplaimas district, Buriram province. This is the qualitative research which study the datum from Buddhist scriptures as Tipitakas, its commentary, texts and concerning research. In the view point on development and conservation of Mahajatakadesana (Great Birth Sermon) tradition by Buddhists in Lamplaimas district, Buriram province, there are collection of datum from interview of the target group around 30 persons.

             The result of research found that :

The history and origin of Mahajatakadesana (Great Birth Sermon) tradition in Thai society have been practiced continuously from ancient until became the tradition. This tradition was developed to be wonderful custom, ritual and culture of local in many areas of Lamplaimas district, Buriram province in the present. This tradition depend on basic of faith in Buddhism and corresponding from old generation to the new generation of local ethnic which talk on local language.

There are five mode of Mahajatakadesana (Great Birth Sermon) of Buddhist monks in Lamplaimas district, Buriram province namely 1) single sermon, 2) sermon by two persons, 3) sermon by three persons, 4) sermon mixed with preacher from central region, 5) sermon mixed with country song singer. There are three modes of sermon’s melody namely; 1) general melody, 2) classical melody, and 3) applied melody. There are two mode of parlance of sermon using in recent namely; 1) Isan parlance which have high-low and melodic sound, and down out of note and much more time, 2) parlance of central region which short and using the less time.

             The mode in development and conservation of Mahachat custom in Lamplaimas District, Buriram Province are ; 1) Using the local language of Isan according to this principle ; growth knowledge, dare to present, capacity in expression, promote using the local language and protect the cultural value,           2) Training according to this principle ; adding knowledge, understanding, skill and change attitude and add intellectual, 3) propagation according to this principle ; personality, knowledge in principle and technique of sermon, persuasion. There are four modes in development of concerning persons namely; 1) Faith as ritual faith, custom and traditional faith, 2) Local wisdom as to have local wisdom, to present local wisdom, direct experience and changing of learning, 3) Ritual as  follows; participation, Unity,  harmony Integrating and maintaining ritual values, 4) Public relations as follows; Promote image, protect reputation, make the right understanding and build credibility and must be done through training to understand in using of local wisdom in the ritual. Validation of traditions, rituals, cultures and traditions of the local gurus. local knowledge It is a development and conservation that is likely to be researched.
