An Integration of Buddhist Teachings and the King’s Philosophy to Enhance the Effective Management of Meditation Centers, Mahachulalongkornralavidyalaya University

Abstract

The objectives of this study are, (1) to study the problems of meditation center of  Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University,(2) to study the  Buddhadharma and king’s philosophy to strengthen the management of Meditation Centers of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, and (3) to present the body of knowledge integrated to Buddhadharma and king’s philosophy to strengthen the management efficiency of Meditation Centers of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. This study is qualitative based research by studying both documents and interviewing executives, personnel, staffs working at both the meditation center of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University and third party are 25 people.

             The research results showed that

1) the problems of meditation centers hane four dimensions: (1) personnel lacking of stability and insufficient personnel rate to work load. (2) policy and strategic plans for budget management are unclear and lack of flexibility in management. (3) equipment management not enough to use and storing system is still disorganized, lack of standard and (4) lack of policy and development plan of university level in managing mediation center systematically.

2) Buddhadhamma principles and King’s Philosophy based on sufficient economy three principles and 2 conditions for enhancing the efficiency of meditation centers management of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University are included with, (1) principles for promoting effective human resource management are the Tipiaka (threefold training) are Stla (moralitg), Samādhi (concentration) and Paññā (wisdom), and  three Sappāya (suitable) are suitable person, suitable abode and speech. (2) The principles for promoting budget management to be effective is Ditthadhammikatthasāmvattanikadharma (virtues leading to temporal welfare). (3) The teachings for promoting the equipment management to be effective is Kula-cirattthiti-dharma, the principles of maintaining sustainable wealth of the organization. (4) Principles for enhancing effective administration is the seven Sappurisa-dhamma (qualities of a good man).

3) The body of knowledge, integrated Buddhadhamma and King’s Philosophy to enhance the management efficiency of the meditation centers of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University with the “PDCA process of W. Edwards Deming by synthesizing in four dimensions as follows: (1) Individual: plan = having policy plan to assign regular permanent staffs and employment rate by clearly specifying qualifications. Do = activities that have personnel development by giving opportunities for personnel to develop their knowledge and new skills thoroughly. Check = checking the suitability / evaluation, maintaining personnel, should create an atmosphere to be friendly means to be suitable. Act = applying results to improve / correct, community alignment, having volunteer policy of each centers. (2) Budget: plan – planning to use budget adequately, reasonable, suitable to use the available resources. Do = implementing the budget, taking action according to the plan. Check = auditing the budget accordance with the objectives of the budget. Act = to follow up, adjust, correct, planning to be suitable for next time. (3) Equipment and location: plan = finding effective equipment to use in the organization to be sufficient enough to estimate the number of personnel before planning to use the equipment and location. Do = implementation of equipment and using the location has ways to avoid dangers while using the tools. Check = checking the equipment to meet the budget objectives and using locations effectively. Act = following up, improving, correcting, have standardized system for maintenance and have controlled the equipment and location in the condition ready to use. (4) Administration: plan = knowing principles and rules that will result in the management of the meditation center of the university in making action plan to cover the guidelines of Vipassana (insight) meditation and others. Do = implementation of plan to put on action to achieve the goal with desirable understanding. Check = having suitable time to evaluate the performance appraisal. Act = follow up, improving, correcting and having process for developing and improving the plan to be appropriate and know how to improve further.
