Abstract

The aims of this research were: to study the leadership and suggestions to improve the leadership of the administrators based on Sangahavatthu dhamma IV (saṅgahavatthu, bases of social solidarity) in Phrapariyatti schools under the Office of Buddhism, Udonthani province. This study used the mixed research methodology to collect the data from 137 samples, selected by the method of Krejcies & Morgan, including the administrators and teachers in the schools and from 10 targeted informants selected by the purposive sampling.  The research tools used in this study were a questionnaire with its reliability value of .97 and the structured interview. The statistics used in this study were: Mean and Standard Deviation.

The research results were as follows:

1) The mean scores of the leadership of the administrators based on Sangahavatthu dhamma IV in Phrapariyatti schools under the Office of Buddhism, Udonthani province were rated at a high level in both overall and studied aspects. The highest can be seen in the aspect of ‘leadership based on generosity principle (dāna)’, followed by that of ‘leadership based on kindly speech (piyavācā), ‘leadership based on useful conduct (atthacariyā) and equality consisting in impartiality (samānattatā) respectively.

2) The suggestions to improve to improve the leadership of the administrators based on Sangahavatthu dhamma IV in Phrapariyatti schools under the Office of Buddhism, Udonthani province are as follows: 1) in regards to the leadership based on generosity, the administrators should give the opportunity to correct the mistakes of personnel with flexibility according to the situation, they should promote the development of knowledge for personnel as appropriate for each position; 2) in regards to the leadership based on kindly speech, the polite speech with encouragement, loving kindness, sincerity and good wishes should be used with the personnel; 3) in leadership based on useful conduct, the promotion adjusted to the ability of the personnel should be made and the personnel development for different positions should be organized; 4) in leadership based on equality consisting in impartiality, the administrator should solve the problem together with their colleagues, be a good model that is suitable to the role of the leader position, be able to control their emotion while working with the personnel and the others and work constantly with their capacity.
