An Integration of the Five Precepts Observation into Creating Happily Community : A Case Study of the Expansion School in Denchai District, Phrae Province

Abstract

 

 

This research aims: 1) to study the context and process of five precepts observing for creating happily community : a case study of the expansion school in Denchai District, Phrae Province, 2) to study the intergrating of five precepts observing into creating happily community : a case study of the expansion school in Denchai District, Phrae Province and 3) to propose a way to promote the five precepts of participation in schools to strengthen the community: a case study of the expansion school in Denchai District, Phrae Province. This study was the mixed methods research. The qualitative research was done by using both documentary and in-depth interviews methods. The data were analyzed and described in descriptive manner. The quantitative research methods was done by collecting data using questionnaire and data were analyzed by means and standard deviation.

The results were as follows:

1) In the context of the school in Denchai, the school has set the direction / guideline for educational management to provide education, and educational facilities use as a guideline for educational management to maximum efficiency and effectiveness. There are plans to improve the quality of education and annual plan. Most importantly, students and staff in most educational institutions respect Buddhism. The policy is to integrate the Buddhist education with the local community regularly and have the participatory process the development of the annual educational quality management plan. In the implementation of the program, the five precepts of the Buddha were given to the community in accordance with the principle of "home, temple and school" the 5 precepts cover 5 verses.

2) The integrating the Five Precepts of participation in schools to strengthen the community, it was found that: Community and related organizations encourage students people in the community maintain the 5 precepts by coordinating community leaders, local leaders in the village. Cooperate with government agencies and educational institutions through community activities. Campaigns for all sectors to maintain the practice five precepts observing , practice meditation, and pratice of the Sufficiency Economy philosophy integrated the cultivated characteristics of the people to know the harmony of good luck to the King. To create a sustainable society by the participation of temples and Sangha community in Denchai district to promote the practice of the 5 precepts in the school through the Buddhist teacher (Krupra) of moral teaching. Encourage monks who have the knowledge and ability to attend the moral education in the school. Encourage educational institutions to preserve the Panca-sila and Panca-dhamma with public officials and police. Intergrated and encourage students to be good, genius and happy, and encourage students, youth and the public to do good deeds with the heart, to encourage the community to be morally strong.

The results of a study on satisfaction with integrating the five precepts of participation in educational institutions to strengthen the community found that: The overall score was at a high level ( = 4.30). When considering each side, it was found that the score was at a high level. Therefore, the guidelines for the promotion of the five precepts of participation in schools to strengthen the community, should be promoted by the five aspects of Buddhism.
