Abstract

The thesis entitled "Community Empowerment of Kruba Srivichai" has the following objectives: 1) to study the background of community development of Kruba Srivichai 2) to study the community development model of Kruba Srivichai                      3) to analyze the model of community empowerment of Kruba Srivichai.                       This research is a qualitative research based on in-depth interview. The researcher chose the interviewees from11 key informants.         

                 The research found that social context in the Kruba Srivichai period,                in terms of politics, Kruba Srivichai was born in the middle of changes in the northern districts of Siam. The impact of the regime changed from the prefectures of the reign of King Rama V to the new regime in the period of 1945. It was the time that Kruba Chao Srivichai was driving as a community leader against central authority.                  The decreasing of the power of the northern royal family resulting in a broad anti-Siam culture and the conservation of the revival of Lanna culture. It was expressed through the support of the restoration of the temples of Kruba Srivichai. In terms of economics, economy in those days was a sustained economy. The economic role depended on cow traders. These merchants were usually Chinese, Tai Yai and Burmese who travel between Lanna, China, and Malamang in Myanmar. In terms of religion, in the life of Kruba Chao Srivichai, the Siamese government had made reforms of clergy throughout the country by launching the Act of Clergy Administration; combining the power center with the Sangha Association. This Act affecting monks throughout the country to follow and abolish local traditional traditions which contrast to the Act.

    The model of community development of Kruba Srivichai found that there are 6 aspects, including 1) building faith, the merit of Kruba Srivichai, faith from the practice, faith from the accusations, faith of verbal truth. 2) Community needs,                  a collective requirement, such as building, renovating, repairing religious places -temples, vihara, chedi, public welfare, including the way to Doi Suthep, Bridge over the Ping River. 3) Community participation, with the support from within                       the community and outside the community 4) public relations, the broadly spread of information. 5) Strong support for the network of people. And 6) Leadership,               with vision and systematic planning.

                 Analyzing the model of community empowerment of Kruba Srivichai.              It is found that the main goal is to practice as the Buddha. As for the people, they make merit to go to heaven, Nirvana or to meet Phra Sri Ariya in the future. The principle of community empowerment of Kruba Srivichai focuses on people, dedicates to develop the community from the lack of prosperity or based on people’s need. Therefore, the principle of community empowerment of Kruba Srivichai is based on self-interest, non- self- interest, and public interest.

 

                The ways to build community power of Kruba Srivichai include creating the right mindset for the people, promoting the right mind power for people, creating the right concept for people, the creation of the work force of the people that will be a system that causes the movement, and activities developed within the community and bring the prosperity to country.

                The model of community empowerment of Kruba Srivichai is as follows:  1) Having a strong determination and determination to practice himself as the Buddha. 2) Faith in the leader, believe in the prestige of the leader that will be achieved. 3) Sacrifice, the sacrifice of leaders and community development partners 4) Mercy, good wishes with a pure heart 5) Wisdom and technology, a combination of previous knowledge and modern technology. 6) The network, network of followers, master, baron, trader, merchant, Chinese and Tai Yai, Lanna and Karen people                7) Verbal truth, strong mind to the achievement.
