Abstract

The dissertation entitled ‘The Buddhist Cultural Tourism: A Case Study of the Upper Mekong Border Communities, Chiang Rai Province’ aimed to explore the concept of the Buddhist cultural tourism on the End of Buddhist Lent in the upper Mekong border communities and to analyze the Buddhist cultural tourism through the End of Buddhist Lent tradition.

 

Regarding the Buddhist cultural tourism, it is a form of activity that related to the traditions of the Buddhist people such as the merit making and its fruits to be won in this life, in the life to come and the highest good. 

The End of Buddhist Lent tradition in the upper Mekong border communities, it is a tradition that encourage people to perform the great meritorious deeds according to the Buddhist Doctrine - Pu¤¤akiriyà-vatthu or ten bases of meritorious action. The related tradition is known as the worship of the Buddha’s footprint for paying the gratitude. All traditions and rituals are an important part of supporting to propagate the Buddhist Doctrines and the succession of Buddhism.

According to the Buddhist cultural tourism promotion in the upper Mekong border communities of Chiang Rai province, it should promote in the following areas: budget of training to have knowledge about the history of the community, public relations, security, hygiene, immigration documents and the extra discounted accommodation for tourists.
