Abstract

 

The thesis entitled “Development of the Roles of Moral Teaching Monks in Schools, Muang District, Suratthani Province” consisted of three objectives: (1) to study the Development of the Roles of Moral Teaching Monks in Schools, Muang District, Suratthani Province, (2) to study and compare the Development of the Roles of Moral Teaching Monks in Schools, Muang District, Suratthani Province, and (3) to study problems and propose suggestions for the Development of the Roles of Moral Teaching Monks in Schools, Muang District, Suratthani Province. The sample was selected from 349 cases. The method of this study was Mixed-Method Research between quantitative research by using questionnaires for data collection, and qualitative research by means of an interview for data collection. The reliability of the research instrument showed a value of 0.97. The statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-test, One Way ANOVA, and Least Significant Difference (LSD).

The results of the study were as follows:

1. The overall of the Development of the Roles of Moral Teaching Monks in Schools, Muang District, Suratthani Province in all 4 aspects was at a high level with an average of 3.83. When considering each aspect, it was found that all aspects were at a high level. The teaching of Buddhism subject was as the highest level with an average of 3.88. While the lowest level was the teaching of Buddhist Integration into ways of lives with an average of 3.77.

 

 

 

2. From the results of the comparison of the Development of the Roles of Moral Teaching Monks in Schools, Muang District, Suratthani Province classified by personal factors, it indicated that the overall students, who were different in gender, age, educational background in both general education and Pali studies, did not have different opinions towards the roles of moral teaching monks; therefore, the set hypothesis was rejected.

 

 

 

 

3. From the study, there were four aspects of suggestions for the Development of the Roles of Moral Teaching Monks in Schools, Muang District, Suratthani Province, as follows: (1) In teaching Buddhism subject: the teaching methods should be developed for attracting and motivating students, and the lecturers should be provided with more knowledge in modern teaching materials, (2) In leading students for practicing meditation: the duration for practicing meditation before the start of class should be extended, and the training for more knowledge in meditation that is easy to understand should also be provided for students, (3) In being a lecturer or reviewing Dhamma studies for students: there should be a clear evaluation of morality and ethics, and the use of language should be easy and clear to understand, and (4) In the teaching of Buddhist integration into ways of lives: the activities for the development of morality and ethics should be organized more often.
