Abstract

 

The main objectives of this research were i) to study the efficiency of Temple management of the abbots in Lamlukka District, Pathumthani Province; and ii) to study the problems and suggestions of the efficiency of Temple management of the abbots in Lamlukka District, Pathumthani Province.  The survey research was carried out in this study.

A group of samples for this research consisted of 245 Buddhist monks who lived in 33 temples under Mahanikaya sect in Lamlukka District, Pathumthani Province, being drawn by simple random sampling technique.  The tool for data collection in this research was questionnaire comprising check-list, rating scale and opened end questions with reliability value equal to 0.902. The programme for social science research was employed for data analysis. The statistics used for it are frequencies, percentage, average means and standard deviation. The content analysis technique was used for analyzing data from open-ended questions.

 

Results of Research were concluded as follows:

The overall efficiency of Temple management of the abbots in Lamlukka District, Pathumthani Province were found at moderate level ( =3.45). Having considered by each aspect, it was rated at the high levels in administrative and building construction aspects, whereas others such as religious studies, social education, propagation and welfare services were noted at moderate levels.

          With regard to the problems and suggestions of the efficiency of Temple management of the abbots in Lamlukka District, Pathumthani Province, it was found that there were no clear visions, goals of some abbots’  temple management, no concrete meeting, planning and formulating objectives of temple development, the ever practiced temple management was carried out, no coordination among temples, villages and communities, and some abbots put the wrong men on the wrong jobs resulting in decrease of efficiency. The suggestions for the improvement of temple management were that there should organized the regular meeting among monks and novices in the temple in order to increase the efficiency of temple management and harmony, the abbots should have opportunities and welcome new ideas and knowledge to apply for temple management, new technology should be used, and creative activities among temple, villages and communities should be organized.
