The main objectives of this research were : i) to study the roles of Phravinayadhikara; ii) to study the roles of Phravinayadhikara as viewed by Sangha in Payathai District, Bangkok, classified by personal factors; and iii) to study the problems and suggestions to improve roles of Phravinayadhikara as viewed by Sangha in Phayathai District, Bangkok. The survey research was carried out in this study.
A group of samples for this research consisted of 309 monks in Phayathai Sangha Administrative area, Bangkok, being drawn by simple random sampling technique. The tool for data collection in this research was questionarire comprising check-list, rating scale and opened end questions. The programme for social science research was employed for data analysis. The statistics used for it are frequencies, percentage, average means and standard deviation. To test the hypotheses, t-test and One way ANOVA were used.
Results of Research were summarized as follows:
Majority of respondent aged between 26-35 years (29.13%) with below 5 years of monkhood (39.48%). Most of them were temple staying monks, who studied below bachelor degree (64.72%), studying at highest Dhamma Studies (51.46%), with no Pali Studes (63.11%).
The overall roles of Phravinayadhikara as viewed by Sangha in Phayathai District. Bangkok were found at high level ( =3.65). Having considered by each aspect, it was also rated at the high levels at all aspects ranking from the most to the least in terms of means such as judicial/legal process ( =3.81), leadership and coordination/participation ( =3.64), and Duties ( =3.49%), respectively.
On comparing the roles of Phravinayadhikara as viewed by Sangha in Phayathai District, Bangkok, classified by personal factors, it was found that years of monkhood, level of Dhamma Studies, and level of Pali Studies were varied in their roles with statistical differences at .05 level of significance, conforming to the hypotheses expected, while age, level of general education and Sangha positions were not found significant differences as contrast to the hypotheses expected.
Reagarding problems and suggestions to improve roles of Phravinayadhikara as viewed by Sangha in Phayathai District, Bangkok, it was found that they had were no confidence in performing their duties, some Phravinayadhikaras did not understand their roles and were not ready to do their duties, and inadequate number of Phraviyayadhikaras. Suggestions for improvement were noted as follows : Phravinayadhikaras had to be brave and confident in performing their duties as the leader, they were more responsible to take care assigned duties, responsible and ready monks should be selcted to be Phravinayadhikaras, they always had to aware of their duties, and those appointed as Phravinayadhikaras had to get rained and ready to serve with their upmost abilities |
