Abstract

This thesis is an analytical study of the concept of Ãyatanas according to Ven.BuddhadãsaBhikkhu’s views. It is of three objectives namely :- (1)To study Ãyatanas appearing in the Buddhist Scriptures. (2) To study Ãyatanas according to Ven.BuddhadãsaBhikkhu’s views. (3) To analyse the concept of Ãyatanas according to Ven.BuddhadãsaBhikkhu’s views.

From the research, it is found that the Ãyatanas appearing in the Buddhist Scriptures mean something for connecting which causes the knowledge to arise. The Ãyatanas are divided into two types, namely :- the internal sense-fields and the external sense-fields. The internal sense-fields mean the connective media in a person’s body which are of 6 kinds:- the eyes, the ears, the nose, the tongue, the body and the mind. The external sense-fields are called “Temperament” meaning the connective media outside the person’s body which are of 6 kinds:- the form, the sound, the smell, the taste, the touch and the mind object. The contact of the internal sense-fields, the external sense-fields and consciousness is called “Phassa” which causes to arise the knowledge. Thus, Phassa is of most important to the way of life.In the Three Baskets there are simile and the subject of comparision with other things such as the ocean, the fire, the animals etc.

The Ãyatanas according to Ven.BuddhadãsaBhikkhu’s views meansomething for connecting which causes the feeling to arise. The Ãyatanas are divided into two types, namely :- the internal sense-fields and the external sense-fields. The internal sense-fields mean the connective media in a person’s body which are of 6 kinds:- the eyes, the ears, the nose, the tongue, the body and the mind. The external sense-fields are called “Temperament” meaning all things in the world which are of 6 kinds:- the form, the sound, the smell, the taste, the touch and the mind object. The internal sense-fields exist for contact with the external sense-fields which cause the arising of phenomenon through eye, ear, nose, tongue, body and mind. The contact of the internal sense-fields, the external sense-fields and consciousness is called “Phassa” which causes the arising of knowledge of all temperaments in the world. Thus, Phassa which controlled by mindfulness and wisdom is of most important for the way of life. There are simile and the subject of comparision with other things such as the ocean, all things etc.

From the analization of the concept of Ãyatanas according to Ven.BuddhadãsaBhikkhu’s views, it is found that Ãyatanas are of great importance as the cause of all things arising to the lives. That is to say, they are the Four Noble Truths :- The Suffering, The Causes of Suffering, The Cessation of Suffering and the Path Leading to the Cessation of Suffering. The contact of the internal sense-fields, the external sense-fields and consciousness is called “Phassa” which is the most important process in the way of life. Thus, the human being must training their minds to a higher state to have wisdom and mindfulness for protection of Ãyatanas to work rightly. The Noble Eightfold Path is the way of life leading to nibbãna which is real aim of the lives.
